How we helped RTM make efficiency its top priority

As Field Operations Manager of mobile network installers RTM, Paul Croft needs to keep track of where his 70 engineering teams are, and what they’re doing. But when their work was being scheduled by 15 different project managers on 15 different Excel spreadsheets, it was impossible to get a clear picture of who was available, and when.

By supplying Paul with a central source of data, Wallchart® has enabled him to match available engineers with work, so making the most of their time. “And by maximising our efficiency,” he explains, “we begin to maximise profits too.”

RTM’s Wallchart® solution has also been integrated with the company’s financial application – JD Edwards. All jobs are entered into JD Edwards, which creates a sales order number then forwards the data to Wallchart®. Once the job is complete, the data returns to JD Edwards for billing. The system is more efficient because data is only entered once, and it boosts profitability because jobs can no longer slip through unbilled.

For RTM, Wallchart® doesn’t just improve efficiency, it tracks it too. Paul uses the software’s reporting function to measure the hit rate of jobs attempted and completed against his targets. “We now have an efficiency report for every project manager,” he says, “and efficiency has become one of our Key Performance Indicators.”

In fact, Wallchart® has become such an integral part of the way RTM does business, that the company has established a disaster recovery plan for the application in the event of network failure. “It’s the only way we could ensure business as usual,” adds Paul.
